One episode, four clips.

A 47-minute interview went in. Four minutes later, four captioned clips came out, each framed on whoever was talking. Thirty seconds, no sound needed.

The real app and real output: a 47:52 episode became four captioned clips in 226 seconds on an M3 Pro.

Four clips it picked, and why.

Real output from two podcasts. Choose a clip to watch it and read the picker's reasons.

First, it listens on your Mac.

Apple's built-in speech engine writes a word-timed transcript at about 42 times real time. Older Macs use Whisper instead.

    Questions, answered.

    Privacy
No. Transcription, face tracking, captions and rendering all run on your Mac. The only thing that can leave it is transcript text, sent to the clip picker you choose. Pick Apple's on-device model and nothing leaves at all.
    Macs
Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14 or later. On macOS 26 it uses Apple's built-in speech engine with nothing to download; older systems fetch one 550 MB Whisper model the first time.
    Price
Yes, and MIT licensed. There is no account and no subscription. If you use a hosted picker you pay that provider directly, about two cents per hour of video with the recommended model.
    Quality
On five public podcasts, two of the recommended model's top five picks matched clips an editor marked, on average. Every pick comes with its reasons, so you can judge it in seconds. The test set is still awaiting human review.
    Opening
The app isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch of a browser download. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to choco.video. You only do this once. Or install from Terminal, which skips the prompt entirely: curl -fsSL https://chocovideo.vercel.app/install.sh | sh
